Abstract

Background: Radiotherapy is a key modality in cancer treatment, where the accuracy of the CT Simulator (CT-Sim) stage plays a crucial role in determining treatment success. However, conventional patient education methods—primarily verbal explanations and brief written forms—are often ineffective, leading to poor patient understanding and inadequate preparation. This results in frequent delays, increased risks of side effects, and reduced service efficiency. Additional challenges include long waiting times, low health literacy, and inconsistent information transfer due to changes in patient companions.

Objective: This study aims to optimize patient preparation for CT Simulator procedures through the implementation of a digital-based educational innovation (DIGIPREP-CT) to improve patient understanding, readiness, service efficiency, and overall patient safety.

Methods: This innovation adopts a developmental and implementation approach by integrating three main digital components: interactive educational videos, QR code-based access to information, and WhatsApp communication groups. The process includes preparation (needs assessment, content development, and team formation), implementation (patient education, independent access to materials, and communication support), and monitoring (evaluation of patient readiness and follow-up education).

Results: The implementation of DIGIPREP-CT is expected to enhance patient knowledge and adherence to preparation protocols, reduce the incidence of improper preparation (e.g., عدم fasting, improper medication use), improve communication between healthcare providers and patients, and ensure continuity of information during long waiting periods. Additionally, it contributes to reducing procedure delays and increasing service efficiency in radiotherapy units..

Conclusion: DIGIPREP-CT represents an effective digital innovation in patient education that addresses the limitations of conventional methods. By providing accessible, consistent, and interactive information, this approach has the potential to significantly improve patient readiness, optimize workflow efficiency, and enhance patient safety in radiotherapy services.
