Abstract

Background: Breast cancer (carcinoma mammae) is one of the malignancies with high incidence and mortality among women worldwide and has distinct biological characteristics based on molecular subtypes, including Luminal A, Luminal B, HER2, and Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC). Inflammatory processes play an important role in cancer progression, and hematological biomarkers such as the Platelet to Lymphocyte Ratio (PLR) may reflect systemic inflammatory activity. PLR examination is simple, inexpensive, and easily accessible compared to other serum biomarkers, making it a potential additional marker in the characterization of breast cancer subtypes. However, evidence regarding the association between PLR and breast cancer subtypes remains limited and has not been widely studied at RSUD Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo. Objective: To determine the correlation between Platelet to Lymphocyte Ratio (PLR) with breast cancer subtypes in patients at RSUD Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo. Methods: This research was an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design using medical record data from patients diagnosed with breat cancer. The collected variables included age, body mass index (BMI), family history, PLR value, and breast cancer subtype (Luminal A, Luminal B, HER2, and TNBC). Statistical analysis was performed to assess the relationship between PLR and breast cancer subtypes using the Chi-Square correlation test.  Results: A total of 63 subjects were analyzed, with the majority of patients having high PLR values (58.7%). The most common subtype of carcinoma mammae was Luminal B (36.5%), followed by TNBC (23.8%), HER2 (22.2%), and Luminal A (17.5%). The mean PLR value among all subjects was 202 ± 42.45. The Chi-Square test showed that PLR was not significantly associated with breast cancer subtypes (p = 0.302). Conclusion: The PLR value did not show a significant association with breast cancer subtypes. PLR was less sensitive in differentiating the biological characteristics among breast cancer subtypes.
